Overview

There are big mountains, and then there is Aoraki / Mount Cook. At 3,724 metres, New Zealand’s highest peak commands a presence that stops you in your tracks — and getting there is half the experience.
Your private Queenstown Chauffeurs journey north takes you through the dramatic Kawarau Gorge, across the sweeping Lindis Pass, and into the vast Mackenzie Basin — a landscape so wide and open it feels like the edge of the world. As you approach Mt Cook Village, the scenery shifts from beautiful to breathtaking, with towering peaks, braided glacier rivers, and alpine terrain that grows more dramatic with every kilometre.
The centrepiece of the day is the Hooker Valley Track — widely regarded as New Zealand’s finest accessible alpine walk. Cross swing bridges over glacier-fed rivers, walk beneath the sheer face of Aoraki, and arrive at Hooker Lake where icebergs drift quietly in the blue-grey water. It’s the kind of walk that stays with you.
With your private chauffeur waiting, there’s no schedule to keep. Walk at your pace, linger at the viewpoints, and return when you’re ready.

Schedule Details

Kawarau Gorge

The dramatic start to the journey north — a steep-sided gorge carved by the Kawarau River, with towering schist cliffs and deep turquoise water below.

Lindis Pass

Stroll the famous Queenstown waterfront, take in the lake, or simply sit and watch the mountains reflect in the water.

Lake Pukaki

The gateway to Mt Cook — a vast, impossibly turquoise glacial lake with Aoraki rising directly at its head. One of the most photographed views in New Zealand, and even more extraordinary in person.

Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park

A secluded lakeside spot ideal for a rest, a walk along the water's edge, or on a warm day, a refreshing swim in the glacier-fed lake.

Hooker Valley Track (3–4 hrs return)

The heart of Glenorchy village. Stop in for a coffee, a homemade treat, and a taste of this small town's warm, unhurried character.

Mt Cook Village
Lake Tekapo Sunset Stop (Optional)

F.A.Q

Is the Hooker Valley Track difficult?

The half day covers the key highlights — perfect for a great taster. The full day goes further, deeper, and into more remote locations that simply aren't reachable in five hours. For serious fans, the full day is the one.

What should I wear and bring?

Absolutely. The tour is entirely flexible and can be as active or as relaxed as your group prefers.

Is lunch included?

Yes — Paradise is an optional extension and we highly recommend it if time and conditions allow. Just mention it at booking.

Is this suitable for children or elderly guests?

The Hooker Valley Track is manageable for most ages, though young children may find the full walk tiring. Your chauffeur can adjust the day if needed — some guests prefer a shorter walk and more time at the viewpoints.

Can we skip the walk and still enjoy the tour?

Absolutely. The drive alone is extraordinary, and there are numerous viewpoints, short strolls, and scenic stops that don't require the full track.

What if the weather is bad?

Mt Cook weather is alpine and can be unpredictable. We monitor conditions and will advise if a rescheduled date is recommended. The scenery is dramatic in all weather — cloud and mist can make it even more atmospheric.
